Got the SE last summer. I don’t need the latest best camera, and it does everything I want from a smart phone at half the price of a new 12

Well that at least argues against my theory that apple tinkers with the software at some point to make older versions chew through battery / run poorly to get people to upgrade. Anecdotally it seemed like her phone just suddenly developed this problem after an update, however.
