YOLO, seems like a nice relaxing vacation! WCI has shared some climbing pics. Any other extreme fans?

That's you? Wow. I wouldn't do that now. But I have done Santa Cruz trail in Santa Barbara before kids. Here's a video(not mine) of the descent:

No way, it is definitely not me. Congrats on your survival.

Thanks. Many many people do that trail, so I wouldn't regard it as an epoch(or epic?) achievement, but there's definitely an element of risk. Most of the patients I see with MTBing injuries(including a pneumothorax)are low speed injuries(under 5 MPH). Though if you go off an edge like on the videos, you're probably not going to the local urgent care. Needless to say, I find that outdoor rock climbing, even though I'm secured on a rope, orders of magnitude more nut tingling.

Without being to rabbit holey, you should check out Danny Macaskill's MTBing ventures:

The first one was cool but a bit insane, but I’d do the Santa Cruz trail! How long is it? Santa Barbara is beautiful, so any excuse to go there is great.

11 mi up buckhorn trail(fireroads) around 3000 ft climb. 5 mi downhill all single track. I don't bomb downhills and for me it's steep. I had to take more breaks going downhill than uphill from all the near continuous breaking.

I’m fit and healthy, but I don’t think I’d even want to hike down the first one...people can be amazing.

You can get that type of exposure hiking in Zion National Park, its just that you're surrounded by red.

Ha! it's not the ambient color that gives me pause, it's the precipitous drop off one one side . . . LOL Hardly location specific.

That's not a trail, it's a via ferrata. Look at the cabling on the right side. I'd do it as a via ferrata, but not as a mountain bike ride! I do have something kind of similar planned for the morning though:

Have done a ride in Guatemala, it wasnt technically hard but was extreme in that if you got hurt...welp, and it was steep.

Bombing down Mt. Lemmon might be in the category, not exactly as sketchy, but we're going fast.

Coming down from Summerhaven to Seven Cataracts, pre Graham warm up ride.Dashware telemetry power speed watt wattage mph

Gibraltar is a great climb in Santa Barbara for road, its a slower decline since narrow/sharp turns. Some mtb riding around aspen, but im super novice on a mtb and it mostly scares me.

Wow. That looking freaking awesome. So jealous of the Utah mtb'er experience. If you want to watch an unwatchable Santa Monica Backbone single track shot with 2011 technology, here's my rendition of a newbie slowpoke biking downhill. But that's how I do. If you don't want to fall asleep I'd watch at 2x speed.

Is that you? Wow. That's awesome. Going as fast as cars scares me. I'm chicken when it comes to bombing downhill. Deer Creek Rd in the Santa Monica's is a road that I climb, but here's a video of the local kamikaze cyclist going down it.

Yeah thats my video. We actually had to pass a car or two earlier in the video, they cant corner at speed like a bike. I no longer have the desire to do such things, well I say that until Im there, but it doesnt make any sense, not young enough.

Cant believe I didnt know about this road when I lived there, dang. I would not be taking it like this dude though, he is at serious angles a lot of the time, thats some serious trust. Nice thing about lemmon is its strange for a mountain road, its really wide and the tuns are super gentle. One of the top climbs in the country.
