    Elon is crazy but I don't think Tesla would be where it is now if he was a normal CEO. Crazy sells. All publicity is good publicity.

    I am sure some of his antics made things worse but I think it was mostly favorable from a financial, empire building standpoint.

      In order to be disruptor in industry, one has to be willing to be disrupting, right?

      This is the core problem what he has with Twitter that's different from Tesla or Space X. Tesla and Space X were going for disruption and leading a new way into an established sector.

      Twitter is viewed for the masses from the core business model of advertisers. He's trying to broaden that core to allow for the fringes 2SD away from norm while the norm doesn't really want that (including advertisers) and balance with a $8 charge which won't work ($30 may have, but Stephen King crushed that with one tweet).

      He's learning to be in the middle of masses, it's a lot harder to thread that needle PR space than being a disruptor in industry.

        Re: Twitter -

        I think it's more the case that he's surrounded himself with right-wing dingbats (Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, & other grifters of similar ilk) along with libertarian-minded VCs (Peter Theil, David Sacks, "Paypal Mafia", et al) that he's in some weird echo chamber and bubble where the only think that matters is owning the libs by:

        - giving blue checkmarks to everyone, defeating the purpose of their use-case to begin with;
        - focusing on "woke" topics (whatever that means);
        - allowing previously banned people and extremists to come back on Twitter under the premise of 'free speech' (until Ye started spewing garbage - then Musk realized why TOS exist in the first place, and banned him yesterday).

        Anyways, he's learning a lesson on why terms of service exist, why there is no absolute free speech, and the consequences of adhering to some rigid philosophy disconnected from reality. Advertisers continue to flee, and unless he changes his mindset, prolly won't return.

          From what I’m reading, Pepsi took delivery of 5 semis delivery night and expect a total of 15 by end of year. A Frito-Lay wrapped one participated in a Christmas parade in Modesto California.

          Their pilot line has the supposedly has capability of 10 semi a week in Nevada.

          Also there’s rumor of a new model 3 refresh named highland. There’s been photos circulating of model 3s with manufacturer plates and the front/back covered up.

          Theres a Reddit user that claims to be an engineer fairly high up in Tesla now spacex saying there’s big things to be announced soon (huge grain of salt).

            Elon is still a marketing genius. He dissolved his PR staff in 2020. Unique.

            Once took delivery of about 15 brand new Mack trucks in one week, courtesy of EPA grants. Got a check from TCEQ north of $1m. In that clean air program, government covered close to 90% of the costs. They of course were diesel. Much better deal than Pepsi got. I am sure Pepsi used the program too. However, Pepsi this time will eventually sell their old diesel trucks eventually.
            Those “low emissions” trucks will still be on the road.
            To get them off the road will take grant programs.
            75%~90% , drill a whole in the block and cut the frame. That is why you no longer see old smoke blowing diesels on the road.
            TERP works hard to cut NOx emissions that affect the air of our great state. By upgrading your vehicles and equipment and discarding the older models, you are helping to sustain Texas for the years ahead.

            Covers trucks and off road equipment too.
            Just because you have a new truck, getting the old trucks out of commission hasn’t been addressed. The EPA knows this and has data. The government incentives haven’t been addressed.
            I am relatively sure Pepsi will get a nice chunk of cash on every truck they take out of service and it will be in service until expensive rebate programs provide incentives.
            Pay me now or pay me later. Tax dollars hard at work.
            Full disclosure: It did work. Significant emissions reduction achieved only by taking the old vehicles out of service. That is how this works. Manufacturers benefit, dealer benefits, buyer benefits, government neutral, taxpayer pays the cost.

              I’m in the camp of those who think the time for Elon to step aside from TSLA has come. In this thread you can find me speaking about how his crazy was necessary to force the change. Now, the momentum for EV is unstoppable and he needs to go focus on something else. Whoever gave Elon the idea to tweet about anything not EV, Space, or digging did him a massive disservice.

              I cannot help but to think he is/should be on his way to being the new Howard Hughes, but I fear society has changed to allow the crazy to be considered “a feature, not a bug” and he’ll never become the recluse we all wish he would be.

                    "cut prices for the best-selling models and offered incentives to Chinese buyers."
                    "the planned production cut comes after Tesla reported record sales in China for November."

                    Plausible and likely. Pull sales up with the logistics problems and Covid policies. Who knows?

                        Actually, now this is sounding like an automobile mfg company. The difference is , stuffing the dealership channel. For Tesla, no dealership channel to stuff. Customer deliveries are just harder and more transparent. There is no dealer inventory to bloat or reduce. In today’s world, inventory in supply chains are not really factored in. Inventory turnovers used to be a key metric in financial analysis. Slow moving meant obsolete or some inefficiencies.

                          Bubble definitely popping - it's the OG meme stock, so not surprising it's the last asset/stock to deflate. It was always a question of when, not if.

                          Combination of rate hikes, Twitter overhang, reputational brand damage, and China growth slowing.

                          Edit: looks like Elon sold a few billy last few days. Prolly to keep funding Twitter's debt.

                            twitter debt is being sold at a massive discount IIRC, he could potentially be buying it back on the cheap, that would be smart

                                Looks like the new semis are kinda a dud for transporting heavy items, but okay for lighter ones.
