EV simply doesn't do great on long hauls. The true advantages of EV semi would be local stop/go/idle hauling; especially in local areas with high congestion and pollution/noise issues.
EV long haul between Denver and St louis? No way.👍 3Comment

I played this game as I posted before. Netted in excess of $1m!
All in the name of emissions reduction. In this case, they probably will sell the old fleet.
Hogwash, votes bought with your taxes.
Trucks discounted over 50% out of your pocket.
That is the reality.

Guess what? The EPA won’t make those grants available to Kansas. But taxpayers in Kansas pay the price so those large congested cities will get discounted trucks. They allocate by county of ownership, not where they run.
By the way, you can buy a truck and qualify. Extremely lucrative way to get government money.
Many ways these programs put money in people’s pockets. Disgraceful. Btw, the terms require you to be “rich”. Pay cash, no secured financing and run them for 5 years. Few companies or individuals have deep pockets to replace a fleet.
The rich get richer. The system is gamed.Last edited by Tim; 12-16-2022, 06:10 PM.👍 1Comment

I voted for Elon to step down in Twitter:
Not because I care about twitter, but just because I think that he is cannibalizing tesla to run twitter.👍 4Comment

Elon selling shares is definitely hurting the stock price, that's true. But it's not like Tesla's stock price would defy gravity indefinitely - laws of physics etc.
All good things come to an end - & that includes stratospheric valuations for speculative products in the pipeline.Comment

"Toyota’s president is questioning whether the push for the auto industry to phase out gas-powered vehicles and go exclusively electric is the right decision.
Akio Toyoda made the comments to reporters in Thailand after the auto manufacturer said around this time last year that it would produce 3.5 million electric vehicles annually by 2030, according to The Wall Street Journal.
"People involved in the auto industry are largely a silent majority," Toyoda said. "That silent majority is wondering whether EVs are really OK to have as a single option. But they think it’s the trend so they can’t speak out loudly."
Diversification might be wise. Not specifically Tesla. Single source is usually damaging at some point.

Sorry - I apologize in advanced - I fully admit that my comment will in no way enrich or better anyone...
When I see the title of this post "Tesla, the Investment", my mind immediately thinks "Dora, the Explorer". Just a cadence thing I guess...that is all.👍 2Comment

They bet on the wrong horse and took the wrong fork on the road - Hydrogen fuel - and lost. They have seen the writing on the wall with 25 hydrogen filling stations in the whole of the country and no one even wanting to buy their stupid hydrogen car or lease it. Now they are using all their might and lobbying to try and delay quick mass EV roll out so they they can get some breathing space and try and get some EV development going and play catch up.
Good to have other vehicles but comments from Toyoda - nah. Just a bunch of sour grapes.
PS. The American President of Toyota made the same comment. And then somebody found out that while he was anti EV, his wife had bought a Tesla X and was very happy with it. And all he could say was that was his wife's decision. If your own spouse believed EV was the way to go while you espouse continuing hybrid, then .....

I would take any Toyota's comments with not a grain but a big bag of salt.

The wisdom and support of 100% EV is very questionable. We might “want EVs,” but you just might find you get what you need.

Kinda bold sentiment given Toyota has basically been the pioneer in auto world for decades and basically all other auto manufacturers have mirrored their processes. Agree hydrogen was a miss but doesn’t mean we are anywhere close to ready for majority EV transition. People in Bay Area paying insane energy prices for electricity at present, some even paying more than they would for an ICE in gas.
in other news, Tesla bubble continues to pop
I too thought that Toyota, with all their know how and experience in ICE and hybrid vehicles would find it a piece of cake in transitioning to full EV. But unfortunately not so. Full EV require not only lot of research but also scaling up. And they wasted a lot of their research talent and money on hydrogen vehicles. Their early EV offerings are miserable.
Even in Bay Area, if you charge your EV at night, you will pay far less in "fuel" costs than any gasoline car.

I intend the focus to be on the content and merits.

I agree with your statement. But some set a deadline for completely eliminating ICE and no path for how to get there. I don't think anyone is suggesting ICE go back to the 40's-70's. Might be a case for keeping a few ICE engines around.Comment
