VTI/VXUS vs. VT

I was talking to a colleague at work who extolls the virtues of a portfolio of VT (Vanguard Total Stock Market) versus the VTI/VXUS mix. The price per share of VT is quite attractive compared to VTI.

Is general consensus that VT might be better than VTI? Or am I overthinking?

It's global market weighted, but impossible to rebalance/TLH between international and US, so I don't like it.

VT is world, VTI is usa market only. The former has over double the ER of the latter. They are not comparable in any real way.

Why does price per share matter? To sell options? None of the Vanguard funds have any decent options action outside VOO and sometimes VWO or a few others... and SPY and EEM are way better for that if you want to do index options.

"Price per share" is an artificial construct. It does not matter.

VT is more heavily weighted in international than I (or many) US investors would want. That said, I do use VT in my portfolios, but it is not a good substitute for VTI/VXUS in a "3 fund portfolio" for most people.

It’s a fund, not a stock. “Share price” is irrelevant.

VT has way too much international for my taste (but is market weight, of course).

Thanks, all for keeping me straight. I’ll stick with VTI/VXUS. I had a moment where I was overthinking that I did something “wrong” going the VTI/VXUS route. Wasn’t planning any options or esoteric moves like that, my comment on the price point was merely that I felt I was getting more shares with each investment. Dumb moment on my end…
