I wonder how options would be for this company...

I think it takes like 5 days after IPO as well as a few other criteria for options to open up. Like any IPO, especially hyped companies, it'll be relatively vigorous at first and time will tell if it'll stay volatile.

So nobody here would buy based off the actual fundamentals of the company, but may put down money because of the hype and essentially the greater fool theory. How is this not pure gambling?

Maybe I’m an outlier but with my small amount of fun money for speculation I would rather buy something I have some conviction in.

“Rivian has raised a total of $10.7B in funding over 10 rounds. Their latest funding was raised on Jul 23, 2021 from a Private Equity round.”

This is an exit strategy for the VC’s, or at least a way to recover their investment. It is still a startup. Basically it is still a VC type investment. They would not be pulling out if they saw much more valuation growth.
It might work but it might take a long time, Or it might not. I would suggest reading the prospectus in detail and finding out as much as possible about the past 10 rounds. VC’s know a lot more than the public.

It is pure gambling. That's what fun money is for.

It is definitely gambling and no one would actually value this company equal to Honda but this is the world we live in where EV companies get pumped and maintain insane valuations.

I'm actually starting my own EV company, TesIa (that's a capital i). I expect this will likely be a billion dollar company within weeks and I'm currently opening up to those WCI forum members who would like to participate in my seeking of seed capital. I will be retaining 95% ownership of the company no matter what.

What are the fundamentals that you refer to for this company? Future is not fundamental analysis. The world is filled with potential, most of which never actually becomes reality. It is not like they have take or pay contracts or a backlog to even build a case for profitability.

Rivian just sent an email stating they have increased the IPO price by 15%. Despite my early access, this seems like a foolish purchase. They now value their company above Honda without even delivering any vehicles!

I suspect it will open at $72 and settle down near $40 over the next few days.

I may still buy my allotted shares with some fun money, but this new price increase has left a bad taste in my mouth.

It's kind of funny that a 15% increase in IPO price is what has you hesitant. No price changes the fact they haven't delivered any vehicles.

They have delivered some. There are rivians on road in general public hands.

Are they in the public's hands or employees for now?

The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent…

nothing would surprise me, didn’t the Doximity IPO rocket several multiples from the initial price?
