  • Transfer Private Practice LLC Stock to Self Directed IRA?

    Hello,

I am a solo practitioner with an LLC taxed as an S Corp. I am contemplating an upcoming practice sale and was curious whether it'd be possible to transfer the LLC stock into a self directed IRA prior to the sale. Can a self directed IRA be used that way? I am wondering whether the capital gains on the sale would then be protected from the hefty long term capital gains tax that way. I anticipate I would be in a low tax bracket in the future and could then withdraw funds potentially tax free from the IRA

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry, but you cannot transfer stock in a practice you own into your own IRA. This comes under the list of “prohibited transactions”.
