The most recent ones were quite lucrative, depending on the amount & longevity of .eth domains (ENS token) and level of activity on OpenSea (SOS token). Anyone else get these? I got some nice 5 figure chunks from these - literally free money falling out of the sky (& into my Metamask wallet).
Got the ENS airdrop, had made a few domains in 2019. Easily the best ROI out of all my investments. To be honest, I think ENS might be worth holding for a while as well as the domains depending on what you got for names

Like I was saying above, ADA is currently going through this, smart contracts were just introduced a few months ago with the Alonzo upgrade. There's a lot of things being built on the network right now to mirror platforms on the ethereum blockchain. Every blockchain that has smart contract capabilities has a leading DEX and their utility token is valuable. ADA will also have a DEX. the beauty of it is that there's a bunch of DEXes being built on Cardano and most of them are having fair launches of their tokens so you can get their tokens airdropped for free. Take Minswap, they just had their ISO, all I did was stake my ADA in one of their designated pools for 30 epochs. I was still getting the full ADA rewards from staking so no money lost but at the end of the FISO, i got a metric ton of MINt tokens airdropped in my wallet and will also have a bunch of MIN tokens airdropped on jan 11th. Sundaeswap is planning on doing a similar launch, you can still stake in one of their designated pools and when the ISO starts you will be eligible to get their tokens airdropped. One of these DEXes will become the prominent DEX on Cardano and their token will have value so doesn't hurt to get all their tokens for free

Similar to ENS, ADA handle just launched like a week ago. Their first domain sale just ended a couple of days ago. I got a couple, main attraction for me was that unlike ENS, you do not have to pay a yearly fee, you just buy it and have it for life. Threw a few bucks at that, who knows what it will be worth in 10 years

I'm all for trial & error into various degen projects and sub-projects, but I'm still not sold on Cardano. It just seems like an empty shell, devoid of any substance... But yes, if you wanted to speculate in new sub-projects, dexes are usually a good one. I did a similar thing with Solana when it first took off.

Also re:staking - most of the time, the juicy yields are just to attract degens into the LP. I'm highly skeptical of all staking except for the largest and most battle-tested platforms (like Aave and MakerDAO during covid crash last year).

      • Congrats to everybody that got in on ENS. I wish I learned of this earlier. I'm an Eth maxi and Eth is going to be ultrasound (ultrasound.money , check it out) come s/p merge.

I'm really happy for everybody that's gotten other aidrops though. Where do you guys get your info? I'm just skimming through this topic now

          • Anyone participating in any of the free token projects out there? Something like BAT for using Brave browser, AMPL and FARM for using Publish0x, ROY from Cryptoroyale, Moons for r/cc?

            • I thought I spent too much time on CT as is, but I guess not. Have not heard of any of those projects.

Nope, but I'm out the degen game for now. I am content with my gains the past 1.5 years.

it's not worth the time or energy for me to pursue the most aped out projects. But if you get in early on these, then remember the most important rule: dump your bag to a noob after the inevitable pump.

Repeat ad nauseum with new project.

                  • However, for those that want some Altcoin Alpha(TM):

                    1) Dump all/most memecoins, DeFi, creator platforms, NFTs.
                    2) Hodl alt L1s
                    3) Add gaming L2s on eth
                    4) Consider cross-chain interoperability projects

This is taken almost verbatim from a knowledgeable person. Do your own due diligence however.

Not as bad as you think. If the token you get has 0 value when you get it, you just record the date you received it and the amount of tokens. When you sell, you just pay cap gains on the whole sell price. More cumbersome to keep track of every BTC DCA plus the extra buys on dips to be honest

that makes sense. Do the airdrops really have zero value when you receive?

if you’re buying btc on exchange you can export your data to a spreadsheet for tracking. Takes a little bit of spreadsheet skill but sure beats manual tracking. I stopped DCA buying when I started mining

Most of them have had 0 value when received. The only exceptions are the tokens that are airdropped after they were already offered in a public/private sale. If that's the case you just note the price of the token when it was airdropped, pay your income taxes on it that year and use that price as your cost basis for holding. Little more involved I guess.

Yeah, made out like a bandit on ens thanks to my propensity to grab any domain name that even slightly could be construed as what I build the site for. :P Had to wait until I got back to the states for the SOS, but ended up with around $4k worth. Just goes to show that I spend way too much time (and money) on OpenSea.

https://www.gasdao.org/ is another one that promises free money falling from the sky. That said, you have to keep in mind that these (except for ens) aren't affiliated with the sites they're rewarding activity for. Do your own research and be careful where you connect your wallet and what those transactions are doing.
I should have been a pair of ragged claws. Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.

Lol, I'm a big fan of the alts. 99.9 of them are garbage, but I love playing with them regardless. These are my top 3 at the moment:

GALA - Gala Games. It's blockchain gaming, which works for me. I've been a huge fan of these guys for over a year. By far my biggest win in crypto since I got in at around .006 and now they're holding pretty steady in the mid .40's. Still plenty of room to run and I wouldn't be surprised to see it go much higher over the next five years or so. I've made a buttload on their NFT's as well. These guys are legit. CEO is one of the co-founders of Myspace and Zynga and he's making all the right moves. War chest in the billions just from last year's revenue. You WILL hear about these guys sooner or later.

ILV - Illuvium. Backed by quite a few of the same players as Solana. It's another blockchain gaming company (notice the trend, yet?). Got in around $400 because I slept on this one too long. With the defi ties it has, I expect big things even without the AAA gameplay that's been teased. I'm getting a decent return just on staking.

SPS - Splinterlands. This one is on Hive, so it's a bit tougher to get, but you can buy/sell it on Gate.io. Right now is actually an awesome time to pick some up in my opinion (not financial advice). Splinterlands is probably one of the largest card blockchain games in existence. Over a million player accounts, and I've seen my humble four to low-five investment in their NFT's 20-30x over the last year. SPS is their token that was recently launched and is integral to their future plans. It went up past $1 recently with the release of the Chaos Legion decks, but has now fallen to around .20. They have a TON of things that they're rolling out this year that SPS will be absolutely required for. I've been getting airdropped SPS due to some of my current Splinterlands NFT's and approaching six figures worth. I'm still buying more. Take from that what you will.

The rest of my stuff is primarily just flipping, NFT's, utility tokens like GRT (The Graph).

As I mentioned earlier, you'll notice there's a gaming trend here. Why am I so bullish on gaming? Because blockchain has been looking for utility for a long time, and we are finally seeing some solid, profitable, and most importantly, fun Play 2 Earn games. This isn't test case stuff, these companies are actually using the various chains to marry NFT utility with games, and people are coming to them in droves. I do believe that the gaming industry will be one of the first mainstream industries to see a major disruption by blockchain. I actually own my game items now. I buy them, I play with them, and then I sell them, usually for a great profit. This will change gaming and I think it'll only be a matter of time before we see more main publishers jumping on board (Ubisoft is already doing so).

Okay, getting off the soapbox. :P Do your own research, but there's some really great alt's out there that have performed incredibly well. Just gotta dig through the rubbish.

                              Edit: Clarified a few things.

                              • You're thinking lucidly - gaming projects are where the speculation and easy money will be (if you get in early, and hedge your bets around to multiple projects, of various levels of degeneracy).
