    I’m more interested in the global median and SD. This is purely for curiosity as I am interested in the financial aspects of being a physician. Also I know my specialties medians and SDs so that wouldn’t answer my question.

    I doubt you're going to find much information on a global (as in world?) median. Since you're a physician, you could probably ball park what the average doctor makes and go from there. I'm not sure how finding your exact numbers would change your curiosity. You know the range is between $100k-$1M+.

      So actually I meant the global median and SD for physicians in the United States. The term global was used in the sense of across specialties as opposed to a single specialty.

            Full time at my current job is 200k, at the VA it's 239k. This is outpatient psychiatry, so a pretty nice gig. But even inpatient in my area, is around 250-300k unless you are also doing ECT, extra call, etc. I'd guess most pediatrician and family medicine docs are looking at similar figures.

              Why are you paid so low?

                @benign_user,
                Please read the survey. You might realize several types of practice don’t pay very well. Most physicians get compensated as stated in their contract. Take a gander at female PCP’s.

                  She's 0.8 fte but full time wouldn't be much more.

                        Well it makes sense that she’s getting paid 200K. She’s working part time in a low paying field.

                          Some of the best paid docs who post here are Psychiatrists.  If you read this forum long enough you will discover a wide range of incomes and net worths.

                            According to the Medscape Survey (link above) psychiatry is a low paying field.

                                Yeah, she wouldn't even be making that full time.
