Does anyone know what the 25%, 50%, 75% income percentiles are for physicians?

What kind of physicians? So much goes into it such as locations, specialty, etc. There's a lot of variation within the same specialty not to mention physicians as a whole. You can always look at Medscape surveys but I don't think they tell the whole story. -

Medscape, AAMC, MGMA are three largest surveys out there. Ironically medscape probably has more accurate data than the other two industry standards due to # of responses, which is sad to say.

A reasonable guess based on the salary surveys out there, likely typical annual physician salaries:
25th percentile: perhaps $250,000 (typical for many docs in Peds, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine)
50 percentile: perhaps $320,000 (typical for many docs in Emergency Medicine, OB, General Surgery)
75 percentile: perhaps $400,000 (typical for some in Urology, GI, Anesthesia, but likely with increasingly large variability in salaries for the higher paying specialties)
And then you have the orthopedic surgeons and plastic surgeons to the stars, $1,000,000 or more, along with those psychiatrists who get paid to cover 24 hour call for emergencies at 5 different hospitals simultaneously.Comment

I was going to say that seems high to me. In primary care it is possible to get to the upper 200K to the low 300K range but you need to bust it. I still see a lot of low 200K physicians. Last I looked the average for primary care was 225K. That is salary not total compensation. Benefits, etc.Comment

Yes it’s a shell game. Self reported to whom and what is included? Base salary or is call pay and incentives or benefits included? Job title ? How many attendings listed as instructors, associate or assistant professors?
Compensation for provider services or what else is added. Forget about w-2 vs 1099 vs self employed or partnerships. Pick your poison let alone try to average it.
Medscape this year switched to “adjusted averages” based on the self reported data. BLS, MGMA, AMGA, Sullivan-Cotter all depend incomplete data at best.

It takes some playing with but eventually you can find doctors. No matter which of the three shells you pick, it’s like a box of chocolates, not sure what’s inside.

@OP, sounds like you need to purchase MGMA to find your heart’s desires. Also not sure why it matters since you are a presumably a physician. You should be focused on your specialty’s compensation and how you can maximize it. Unless, you are thinking of ditching it and specializing in something else. Like everyone says, median probably 300k with range of 80k (ivory tower academic peds heme onc) to 1M+ (ortho/neuro/plastics/MOHs surg with ancillary income).Comment

I'm more interested in the global median and SD are for physicians in the United States. This is purely for curiosity as I am interested in the financial aspects of being a physician. Also I know my specialties medians and SDs so that wouldn't answer my question.
Not to pile on the original poster, but what results did you find when you initially researched physician compensation?
