I practice medicine in a state with a very good malpractice climate and a rigorous patient compensation fund such that my personal assets will never be in jeopardy because of a medical malpractice liability. Lately I have been wanting to locum outside of my home state and saw that Indiana also has a very good malpractice climate for physicians and also a patient compensation fund. For physicians who are practicing in Indiana, is participation in the the patient compensation fund required to practice medicine in the state? What if you are a locum physician ? Also is the fund up and working like it is supposed to? (I know some states has these compensation fund but they are either defunct or not well funded like NY, etc). Is there anything I should know about the fund? Thank you in advance.
