I just don't understand either of those drivers. Sorry, I do not get it. The car is tail gaiting and is going to switch lanes and try to go over a safe speed (there is no where to go really) I guess they might save 5 maybe 10 minutes max and I doubt they are going to start an aortic dissection or a code stroke. The motor cycle is about to go between the two cars. I know in CA and other states they are allowed to "lane share" and go down the center line and blast down: "the 5" during rush hour but is that really a great idea? Blasting between cars who are stuck in traffic while you have no "outer shell"
My goodness, no wonder we cannot get people to social distance, or act rational without strict rules in the super market. We are indeed flawed biased emotional overconfident pattern seeking primates. That highway makes my covid call last night seem safe! EMH? Really? Maybe I am getting old, but I find people (myself included) to be less and less rational.

mine is paired with a radar detector (escort sells the duo) so on the one hand, i’ve got video. on the other hand, its not usable a lot of the time as the recorded speeds would land me in trouble

I got this Blackvue about a year ago and really like it. Will record at 4k or 1080. It has a separate rear camera.

I had one that I got from China a few years ago after reading about it extensively. Two issues.

    1. The cord is super long and I had to use one of those masking tapes to bring t all around to the cigarette lighter power supply. It kept coming off. Now it is lost.

    2. In the hot South East summers the inside of the car will be cooking and I would find the dash cam had fallen off the windshield and lying on the dashboard or even on the floor. After multiple attempts I gave up and the Cam is somewhere in the house.

Interesting vid.  Looks like the motorcycle got in the guys blind spot at the last minute.  I suppose the car is technically at fault, but that’s a tough one to have avoided.

Super bad form on the part of the rider.  It almost looks like the guy wanted to be hit.  The whole maneuver looks like it was effected in the audi's blind spot.

Didn't help that the driver kept going--- hit and run.  Went to trial last month and last minute plea deal.  We were subpoenaed but never called.  The full footage showed pretty clear guy took off.

We never installed a dashcam. But we did activate the dashcam system on Tesla when it first came out, and captured this the very first weekend .

Use the sentry mode routinely now too.

Still haven’t setup any dashcam in any other car.

Well that could have gone worse!  Did you give the guy the footage?  Or did the car pull over

If you have a powered rearview mirror I suggest a BlackVue model dash cam and then buy a wiretap unit to power the dash cam directly from the rearview mirror. It’s pretty simply and straight forward to install.

Bought one at Costco a few years back for $80.  Still going strong.  It's come in handy twice, once when I was rear-ended and the other insurance tried to fight it, and once when arguing with a parking lot attendant about how long I had been parked there.

Tame stuff, but it always makes me feel better having it there and recording.  I did disable the microphone.  Nobody needs to hear me singing Taylor Swift.

    Good investment for us.

I'm not sure how to embed video but I'm glad you posted on this today. I just noticed I had the blue protective film on my new dashcam! Despite that here is an example of daily Dallas driving. This guy passes someone coming off an off ramp and almost gets hit. The resolution is quite a bit better when there isn't a plastic film on it.

I have one in my car and the van we let my nanny drive. A fair quality camera doesn’t cost much. If you can use it just once to avoid an insurance premium hike it will pay for itself. I drive in Dallas so it is just a matter of time before someone crashes into me.

I use the Aukey DR02-USA. You can find it on amazon. The one I have uses an adhesive pad to the window. I have also had suction cup mounts.

    General tips:

There are lots of knock-off dash cams. Buy from a reputable seller.

Use a credit card to slide the power cord into the grooves around the headliner and window post to hide the cord (if you don’t have it professionally installed).

If your suction cup keeps falling off the window then use a tiny amount of high heat silicone grease on a cleaned surface of the suction cup. (link is for example, I’ve never used that site)

Most cameras re-write blocks of 3 to 5 minutes. You don’t need a large card because you’ll probably only need 1 to 2 segments of footage.

Do you talk about patients in your car? Check to find out if you are recording the audio. Most units can de-select the audio for video only modes.

    Thanks--good tips.

As for my car wash situation, insurance is involved, but I'm still out the deductible unless they can recover anything from the car wash or the driver behind me. I didn't get the vibe they were going to pursue it very hard--hopefully I'm wrong. I should have mentioned that I'm 32 weeks pregnant and it was a nice little jolt...I wonder if that would make a difference!! In the end, I'll deal with a $500 deductible, but I'm going to be upset if I'm assigned liability for an incident where I was hit from behind in a car wash with the car in neutral!
